As most Facebook watchers would concur, Facebook’s stunning US membership growth has finally come to a halt. Between March 2011 and July 2012, Facebook’s registered user base grew by less than 1% from roughly 154.3 million users to 155 million users. By contrast, between July 2009 and August 2010, Facebook’s user base grew more than 100% from 65 million registered users to 133 million users. In fact, Facebook has more than doubled it’s registered user base nearly every year since it’s inception and experienced particularly phenomenal growth between the years 2008 and 2011 when membership jumped from 26 million users to more than 154 million users. Considering Facebook’s meteoric rise, the last 18 months have proved to be the first sign of the behemoth’s slowing in the history of it’s charmed existence.
More than 64% of all Internet Users in the US are registered Facebook users and in some states like Texas, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Kentucky more than 70% of internet users are on Facebook.
